7 mistakes to avoid when traveling solo
Solo traveling isn’t something uncommon nowadays but it has its disadvantages. Here are seven mistakes that you shouldn’t absolutely avoid when you are traveling alone.
Don’t opt for cheap hostels – Cheap hostels tend to put strangers together in a room which can be unpleasant when you are traveling alone as you may be outnumbered and therefore not feel comfortable during the time that you should be resting and recuperating your strength for the next day. So instead you should either opt for a cheap hotel or rent a small studio or flat. This way you will be alone and you will be able to relax after a day of sightseeing and more importantly you will have the peace of mind that your belongings are safe.
Don’t be too ambitious – Traveling solo is exhausting so don’t flood your itinerary with too much things to do. Instead taking into consideration your timetable and spread all the things that you want to do evenly. This way you may see less but you will certainly ensure that you have a more pleasant and memorable experience.
Know your budget – It doesn’t matter whether you are traveling alone or with company, you must always consider your budget before making any decisions. For example if you are planning a trip to Paris after your tiresome removal to London, you should know that the French capital is one of the most expensive cities on the planet which means that it may not be the most favorable destination if you`re on a tight budget. The same principal applies when you are choosing a hotel, a restaurants and the tourist attractions that you absolutely wish to visit and explore.
Don’t be afraid to be spontaneous – All travels must have at least one impulsive adventure, so if you feel the urge to do something that you haven’t initially included in your itinerary, do it. This way you will have a unique story to tell when you get back and more importantly you won’t have any regrets.
Avoid getting drunk – Have fun but don’t forget that you are traveling solo which means that there is nobody to protect you from pickpockets and tricksters. Also avoid telling strangers where your hotel is and that you are alone.
Make reservations – Some tourist destinations are much more popular than others. So if you going to a famous city or area make sure that you make hotel and restaurants reservations at least a couple of months before you leave for your trip. Note that you can reserve entrance tickets for some world famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Tower of London and etc. Speaking of the English capital, know that it is an excellent city to visit during the spring or summer as it has numerous monuments that are worth a visit and more importantly as it will allow you to relax after an exhausting removal project.
Avoid carrying too much cash – Solo travelers are the favorite target of pickpockets, so carry as less liquid money as you can. Instead use your credit and debit card whenever you can. This way you won’t suffer heavy losses in the case of an unfortunately event.
