When is the best time to move places?
Many people don’t really have a say in when to undergo their home or office removal as circumstances imposed don’t always allow for timing and scheduling flexibility but rather provide a window of opportunity. If however, you are lucky enough to have the freedom to pick your removal time, day or month here are some things to consider when making up your mind.
Time of year
By rule of thumb, the warmer period of the year is the boom of property removals. Many people are able to take time off work in summer and undergo a long planned house removal. Others simply prefer to move in spring and summer due to better weather which does make everything less of a hassle.
If relocating a business however, annual weather patterns may or may not be of importance. If your business is more of a seasonal operation, then perhaps schedule your removal for the off-peak time of the year when there are fewer customers and business is slower.
Some general things to consider when picking a suitable month/season to move:
- Most removal companies in London are quite busy around the spring and summer months, they also experience high volumes of work around the end and beginning of university terms;
- Consider weather factor if moving delicate items or goods susceptible to bad weather, although packing and securing of valuables is done properly, some seasons just aren’t suitable for removal of certain goods/items/materials;
- Use window of opportunity – if your selected mover has a free slot in a month or week which suits you, by all means do it and enjoy fewer relocation hassles;
Day of the week
Property removals involve transportation of your belongings by road from A to B. In order to keep the project as quick and efficient as possible, it might be worth it to pick one day of the week over another. Choosing a suitable day of the week might actually save you money, not just time and effort.
- Weekends and public holidays are usually very busy for removal companies, perhaps start of working week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays etc.) are less hectic.
- Picking a day which works for both you and the removal company might fetch you a better service price.
Traffic, congestion, delays
In most cases, property removal services are scheduled and booked for a specific amount of hours. However it is important to schedule the actual transportation of items for an off peak time of day (if possible, that is). This advice is essential for customers moving in large cities like London.
- Consider early mornings before to-work traffic hits the streets, this will save service hours and lots of unnecessary hassles and delays;
- Consider evenings – many removal companies in London offer evening or overnight removal services;
- In some cases, transporting items in the time between morning and evening rush hour is also a good option;
- Avoid congestion charge routes wherever possible, tollways and other such paid road infrastructure may save some service time but will cost extra to use.
